On Saturday 14th October, Sebastian Priaulx competed in the Motul Petit Le Mans at Michelin Raceway Road Atlanta - the final race of the 2023 IMSA WeatherTech Sportscar Championship, with AO Racing. Driving in ‘Rexy’, the custom Porsche 911 GT3 R, the team started their 10-hour challenge at P9.
With just over 3 hours left, Rexy entered the top 5 - 12 seconds away from the leaders - eventually climbing up to P3. The team had their sights set on a podium finish but, with only about 10 minutes left, contact with other cars unfortunately forced Rexy off the track. The result was a P8 finish, with fans sat on the edge of their seats after an action-packed performance.
Priaulx says: “We were so incredibly close to a podium finish, which would’ve been the perfect way to end the season. This was our 12th and final race, and I think this performance shows just how much we’ve learned and progressed throughout the year. The fans definitely shared our disappointment as we had a really great drive. The pit stops were quick, and our pace was on point. There were crashes during the race, so I’m glad that we still safely came out top 10. I just want to say a big thank you to AO Racing and everyone who has followed us during the season, it’s been a fantastic experience, and I can’t wait to get back in the driving seat next year.”
